There is something about inline roller rinks that makes you think of that roller derby movie Whip It with Ellen Page. It seems like a place you wouldn't want to rent unless you were planning on having a child's birthday party. Well in some ways you're right, there is a point in life where renting out a roller rink and running into each other for fun is not the ideal birthday. Fortunately for me, none of my friends have reached that age yet.
The Rink in Huntington Beach is hidden in an industrial lot that looks more like a warehouse for Amazon than a recreational center. Once you're inside there are three large roller rinks all typically filled with roller hockey leagues and hockey sticks. There's a concession stand in the corner filled with pretzels, hot dogs, Gatorade and Gatorade looking water; an arcade you can play or sleep in, and plenty of room to roll around.
Do not be mistaken this place is not a 5 star restaurant by any means. We had pizza catered to us from Domino's and 4 liters of Coke and Coke affiliated brands to us for a pittance. I don't know the exact final figure because I didn't book the event but between 45 people we all spent $13 for the rink, food and drinks.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO HERE
You want to get a group of 45 people some exercise before a long night of drinking because you know they will need to lose the calories. This is a great place to skate around and catch up with friends you haven't seen in a while. You get a little exercise because god knows you need it and the pizza isn't half bad either. The staff is friendly, but by in large there are so few of them that you spend most of your night doing whatever you want.
