I love the Simpsons. So when I got to Universal Studios Hollywood the first place I wanted to go to was Moe's Tavern. Instead, our group took a quick trip through Harry Potter first, so when we finally got over to Moe's I was exhausted but ecstatic: I felt like I had just lived a out a childhood dream, I was finally in a dank tavern with a bunch of low lives; it almost felt like I never left college. The Tavern itself is a very clean bar, they serve mostly Duff Beer that's brewed by Florida Beer Company specifically for Universal, a few other assorted craft beers and a Flaming Moe.
There's the Love Tester Machine in the corner which you may have seen in episodes such as "Flaming Moes", "MoneyBART", "The Blue and the Gray", "The Spy Who Learned Me" and "Simpsonsorama"; to name a few. There is one pool table in the center where you can play pool, it even has the chandelier light that hangs right above the table in the show. But let's talk about the Flaming Moe; it is why you came here after all.
The Flaming Moe: A Review
Here's the deal about the Flaming Moe. They don't use cough syrup to light it on fire or anything so don't expect anything too spectacular. It's actually served to you in a cup that is cut in half. The bottom half holds the dry ice and prevents you from hurting yourself and the cup isn't completely sealed off though, in the middle it has small holes that are large enough to let the smoke travel through but small enough to prevent he ice from actually burning you. The entire contraption is essentially a mix between dry ice and orange soda. It looks cool in pictures, tastes okay when you're there, kind of how I imagined the real Flaming Moe's was in the show.
